About Me

My photo
EDIT - Now a 'work at the local school' mum a few days a week while juggling the job of parenting 3 teenagers! I am a SAHM who does work from home occasionally, dedicated to raising 3 Godly, independent, healthy children. Loving the home building process though it is not without challenges. I have fairly free reign over the creative aspect of the project...just not the financial side!

Trying to keep the interest alive ;-)

With the lull in building works, I have vaguely thought about some interior decorating although I am leaving most of that to my gorgeous friend, AJ, from http://www.redomyspace.com.au/

I have been wondering for a while what to do with the large vertical wall area left by the walkin pantry in the kitchen near the cooktop run. See the plan below.

Whilst away in the summer holidays, I found this wall hanging that I love. Sounds like what we are trying to achieve in our family. I would love to find a way to add in 'We do Jesus'. So I am thinking that the kitchen/family/meals area will incorporate this red colour into the decor.

I also contacted a local landscape design company today with the hopes of getting the ball rolling on the gardens. My hope is to do the bare minimum initially and then add more in stages as money allows. I have sent them a copy of our landscape plan, designed by another company, as a starting point.

I was a little too hopeful!

Damn, I was wrong in my information as confirmed by some of my HomeOne members. The contract period commences 20 WORKING days from the survey being received (Feb 11) so there probably won't be much action before then. Oh well, that will save me some time if I don't feel compelled to drive past the block on my way home each day!
On another note, some lovely neighbour has decided to use our empty council bins, filling them up with green waste. Our green bin was full of tree trunks that I could not move it nor would the council truck pick it up anyway. In addition, it now has a large split down the side of it :-( Bring on the fencing, I say!

Not much progress at our end....

....but hopefully the story is different at the other end! OK, I have been pestered for an update but really there is not a lot to say. What I think I know is that Eden Brae received our survey last Monday (11th), the file is in estimating to order materials and that sometime in the next week or two we should be slabbed. Be assured that when I see action on the site, you will be the first to know.

I have had other things to keep me occupied of late too like the death of my beautiful father-in-law and my current issue of a sickly daughter in hospital with viral asthma/pneumonia.

Suspect pegs

I have been waiting all week for red pegs to appear on our property (supposedly within 5 days of Thursday afternoon last week). When I drove past this afternoon, there were pegs BUT they weren't red. I am not sure what this means? Maybe they are pre-peg pegs and they turn red after a particular job is completed? Happy for someone to shed light on this for me.

I also noticed that one of the pegs was inside the pool fence, right on the edge of the pool. Hmmm, I hope that isn't where they think the alfresco will go up to!

Site ready to handover to Eden Brae - yay!

Today saw the concrete being sprayed into the pool - 3 trucks worth, I think. The phone call was made to Eden Brae that the site was all theirs! According to the schedule, the peg out should be now ordered (up to 5 days)

Delayed schedule

The horrific storm of Monday pushed everything back so the site is not yet ready to hand over to EBH.  Peter, our foreman, checked our pool out early Tuesday morning hoping to still spray the concrete that afternoon. On top of the muddy water in the pool, which he pumped out, he found weepers. These are spouts of water moving out the side of the pool due to the rock around the pool. Peter said he would try to get the spray done on Wednesday but if not possible, it would be Thursday. I am hoping that I get to call EBH tomorrow with good news.

The fencing company has finally removed their temporary fencing - 3 weeks late!

Pre plumbing & lighting

It was a good news day today. I drove past the block and noticed the foreman there working in the hole. I stopped to chat to him about progress and he informed me that it should all be finished by Tuesday now (not next Friday) as the concrete spray is booked in for then. In preparation for this, he was doing the preplumbing and the lighting. Peter let me know that he changed the lighting from the plan from the right hand side to the left hand side (usual position). From the house, yard & alfresco, you want the ambient glow of the lighting in the water not looking direct at the lights. Fine by me!

I asked him about the mountain of fill to the side of the hole as we have already paid for fill removal (including the rocks). Peter told me that this is fill for EBH that we asked for. I had assumed that all the fill had rock so all of it was to be removed. Hopefully that will save us about $5K in additional fill that EBH will require!
